Hi emiliano, a while back I wrote a post on how to add and image counter to the standard Divi gallery.

    https://divibooster.com/add-an-image-count-to-the-gallery-module/

It describes how to do it using a plugin (Divi Booster), or with PHP code.

I've also just had a play around and come up with a way to achieve the arrow cursor effect in the Divi gallery module:

    https://divibooster.com/enhancing-divi-gallery-slider-with-cursor-following-arrows/

This effect is implemented in CSS / JavaScript.

I think the combination of the two should more or less do what you need. Hope that helps!

    Dan

Hi dan, I tried what you suggest and works fine:

    https://www.blumilk.net/blmlk/gallery/

but, what if I had multiple galleries per page?

Thanks for pointing this out, emiliano. I've just updated the code in the post to handle multiple galleries on the same page.

Hi Dan, thanks again for your time. Now two galleries work fine together but, when I edit the page with the Divi Builder (for ex. to add a new image), something wrong happens: the gallery layout mode turn into grid mode and the gallery module doesn't show the previously uploaded images. If I exit the visual builder the gallery stay in grid mode. Can you check if is the same for you?

seems to be the php code added with the snippets plugin that causes the problem
this is what appears on the page when edidted with Divi:

    .../wp-content/plugins/code-snippets/php/snippet-ops.php(582) : eval()'d code4
    .../wp-content/themes/Divi/includes/builder/functions.php11526

Hi emiliano, sorry for the slow reply on this. I identified an issue in the image counter code that I think might be to blame. I've updated the code in the post:

    https://divibooster.com/add-an-image-count-to-the-gallery-module/

If you replace the version you are currently using with this, it should hopefully solve the issue. If not, please let me know.

    Thanks!

Dan, thanks so much, it works! A few observations about the mobile version:
    • when I tap on the image (eg. the right half) the arrow appears and the gallery goes to the next image as expected; but, if I subsequently tap on the left half of the gallery, first, the arrow appears without going to the previous image, and if I tap another time it works as expected. (I have to tap two times when I'm changing slide direction and this sounds a bit strange).
    • the fist time you tap on the gallery, the counter makes a little jump and then works as expected
    • in mobile mode arrows should stay hidden.
if you check on mobile the link I previously shared, you'll see how I mean should work:

    https://www.blumilk.net/page.php?id_progetto=126&ordine_progetto=210&titolo_progetto=1919 / 1939

    thanks again

Hey emiliano, thanks for the feedback - it's much appreciated!

I've updated the code in the gallery module cursor arrow post to properly handle touch-based devices, so it should hopefully now solve the first and third of your points:

    https://divibooster.com/enhancing-divi-gallery-slider-with-cursor-following-arrows/

For the gallery counter jumping, is there any chance you're able to share a link to an example of this - I haven't been able to reproduce it yet.

    Thanks!
    Dan

Hi Dan, thanks so much again!
Now mobile navigation works perfectly but counter stay still...

I tried in this video to show you the little leap downwards the counter makes only the first time I tap on the image:

    https://youtube.com/shorts/C_gLvyMCZMs?si=8_E2s9ezA8xAiQb_

you can see as well the correct functionality of the gallery and not that of the counter

    thanks so much

Dan, I'm sorry, I didn't read your post carefully; I was only looking for the code and I didn't realize your plugin should make all the work I need:
    - counter in slider mode
    - following arrow effect
    - tapping/sweeping mobile function
if you confirm this, the best solution is to buy it without wasting any time further on me
    thanks

    Hey emiliano,

Yes, these are all now in Divi Booster :)

I just added the arrow effect / tapping function in the latest Divi Booster update following our conversation, so it wouldn't have been mentioned in the post when you first read it.

You can get Divi Booster here:

    https://divibooster.com/divi-booster-the-easy-way-to-customize-divi/

Hopefully switching to the plugin will resolve the gallery counter jumping issue you've been seeing. It isn't happening on my test sites, so I'm not sure yet what is causing it, but if it persists let me know and I'll do some more digging to try and figure out what's causing it.

    Thanks!
    Dan

Hey Dan, did you finally find out a solution for the mobile image counter? I bought the plugin but didn't solve my problem. Thanks

    Hey emiliano,

I've now figured out the image counter jumping bug. It's actually a bug in the Divi gallery module itself, where the module resizes on the first slide change. It happens even if the image counter code isn't present at all, it's just that the image counter is affected by it / makes it more noticeable. The next update of Divi Booster (v4.4.8) will include a fix for it.

Here's a post with the CSS needed to fix this bug:

    https://divibooster.com/how-to-correct-the-divi-gallery-module-content-shift-on-mobile-devices/

    Hope it helps!
