Filter just on the background image of an element?

Divi has great filters, like the sepia.

Is there any way to apply this filter only to a background image (and not the whole content of the block)? I tried with post slider, slider, a column, a row, a section... The filter is always inherited to the layers on top...

So the effect is, that sepia is applied to the image, the text on it, the button (colors) - everything.

How do I do this to have the filter only on the background image? Or do I need to power up Affinity Photo and sepia just the image?

Yup. You can't just apply the filter for the background image. Your best bet is to use image editor software to modify your image before uploading it as background image.

Thanks, unfortunately you're right. There is a reason for this, and it's in the html specs: "filter" always applies to all layers on top - there is no way not to influence only one layer. That might change in the future (when html gets its next version), but for the moment, that is it.

For some effects, you can use the overlay property, but that is limited to only a few effects.

For modifying the images directly, there are image edit plugins for wordpress - almost all of them on a hefty subscription basis.
