Solved What is this greyed out area responsible for?

    Grey part meaning it's hidden on that screen size (desktop size). Basically, it's the visibility settings in the section / row / module settings.

    Since you see that whole part is being grey out, meaning it's the section visibility settings. To see it, just go to the Section settings > Advanced > Visibility & you will see that it's set to be hidden in desktop.

    So if its hidden on desktop, where would it show?? makes no sense to me.... it's too big for mobile.. is this like a tablet view??

    Try to click the responsive preview.

    In mobile, it will look like below:

    You see that the top part is grey out. Meaning the desktop header version is set to be hidden in mobile. And only show the section below in mobile.
