Solved Can't control gaps between Divi Form module fields

Please see the attached. I need to adjust the gap between the adjacent fields; it needs to match the margin-bottom width of 13px between the fields, but there appears to be no obvious way of doing this.

The screenshot shows the widths for the first field set at 100%, which makes no sense to me. But if I add a background colour to the field I find out that the field extends beyond the left margin of the module, which also makes no sense to me.

How do I get the result I want? Where/what do I adjust to get field 1 = 49% and float left, field 2 = 49% and float right?
